Put the brakes on when thinking about moving anywhere else besides Arizona. Your car and auto insurance company will thank you.
Everyone wants his or her commute to be quick, easy, and safe. Drivers in Arizona can breathe a little easier knowing their state ranked well on the 2013 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report. The report, based on Allstate claims data, ranks America’s 200 largest cities in terms of car accident frequency to identify which cities have the safest drivers.
Phoenix ranked safest for drivers among big cities. Tucson ranked safest for drivers in cities with populations of 500,000 to 749,999. Mesa ranked safest for drivers in cities with populations of 250,000 to 499,999.

Phoenix claims the top slot for safest large city for the ninth year in a row. According to the report, the average driver in Phoenix will experience an auto collision every 9.8 years. While this statistic translates into Phoenix drivers being about two percent more likely to have an accident than the average American, keep in mind the city’s large population. San Diego and San Antonio, TX, the next two “safest” large cities on the report are expected to have collisions 14.5 and 22.4 percent more than the average, respectively.
Based on years between accidents, Mesa came in as the safest Arizona city for driving, ranking 11th nationally on the Best Drivers Report. Drivers in Mesa are 15.7 percent less likely to have a collision, with an expected 11.9 years between car accidents. Meanwhile, Tucson drivers are expected to have a collision every 11.4 years. This makes them 12.4 percent less likely to have an accident.
Other Arizona cities on the report include: Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Scottsdale, Glendale and Peoria.
