Hilton Head Island Retirement Communities
Hilton Head Lakes – This waterfront community is located 15 miles from both Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia. 90% of homesites are said to have a water view. Hilton Head Lakes sits on a 155 acre private, navigable freshwater lake with community day docks, boat ramp, and parking. On site boat storage is also available. The residents only Lake Club is home to 3 swimming pools, a lazy river, fitness center, tennis courts, and more. Oh, and there’s also a Tom Fazio designed 18-hole championship golf course, a 36-acre practice facility, a Par-3 short course, and a full-service pro shop.
Hilton Head Plantation – Hilton Head Plantation sits on 4,000 pristine acres surrounded by the Intracoastal Waterway and Port Royal Sound. The community is perhaps best known for its security, many amenities, and resident programs. Here you’ll find single family homes, townhouses, and condo from the $200,000’s up into the millions. One of the most unique features of the community is its 127-acre Whooping Crane Conservatory which is home to a wide variety of birds and animals native to the region.
The Haven at New Riverside – This is a gated, 55+ community being built by Del Webb, one of the leaders in creating active adult communities across the country. The Haven Clubhouse features a fitness center, an outdoor Junior Olympic size pool, 4 clay (Har-tru) tennis courts, and more. There are 10 home designs starting at around $200,000 and the HOA dues were $159.55 in 2012.
Sun City Hilton Head – Del Webb, the well-known developer of active-adult communities, builds Sun City Hilton Head in the South Carolina low country. Home buyers can choose from 18 floor plans, ranging from 1,055 to 2,403 square feet; typically two and three bedrooms. 2008 prices range from $160,000 to $375,000. The gated community attempts to appeal to all aspects of an active adult lifestyle. Amenities include two 18-hole champion golf courses and tennis courts, walking trails, two fitness centers, swimming pools and the 20-acre Lake Somerset.
Callawassie Island – Callawassie Island is a member owned, private residential club community encompassing 880 acres in the heart of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. Three bodies of water surround the island – the Chechessee Creek and the Colleton and Okatie Rivers – leading to Port Royal Sound and access to the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean. Community clubhouse, 6 clay tennis courts, and a 27-hole Tom Fazio golf course. There are a total of 726 homesites comprised of single-family homes and villas.
Hampton Hall – This community is located in Blufton, only about 10 minutes from Hilton Head Island. The community features a community clubhouse with family and private dining rooms, a banquet hall for dances and parties, a library, and billiard/card rooms. In addition, there is a full-service fitness center featuring an indoor lap pool, aerobics room, steam room, and a cafe. Hampton Hall Country Club features a Pete Dye Signature Golf Course.
Tradition Hilton Head – Tradition Hilton Head will be a South Carolina retirement town filled with active adult retirees living in their town, rather than a retirement community. Tradition is located near Hardeeville, South Carolina’s Lowcountry, 20 minutes from Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia. The Lowcountry has been a vacation destination area since the 1950s. Tradition Hilton Head will be sited on approximately 5,300 acres of lakes and woodlands.
